One very
interesting woman at Avila University is Lexi Clary. She comes from a town
about 15 minutes outside of Dallas called Sunnyvale. Lexi believes that
Sunnyvale is the best city in all of the United States, and it is in the best
state of all, Texas. This is because down south there is Southern comfort. That
means that everybody is very friendly and often smile at each other. This is
different than the big city where not everyone knows each other, In Sunnyvale,
no one is a stranger. Lexi misses her hometown and all of her old friends but
she still keeps in touch with her core group. Lexi found out about Avila University from
checking out the website online. Her opinion of Avila is that it is a good
school with good professors. She feels that the university is small enough so
that you can make connections with teachers and others. Lexi's major is public
relations and advertising and her advisor is Dottie Hamilton. Lexi likes her
advisor and feels comfortable with her. Lexi is currently taking 15 hours of
classes this semester. Even though her hometown and home state are
her first love, there are not a lot of seasons in Texas so it is not as
beautiful as in Missouri. Lexi loves the way the fall leaves change and turn
into the many brilliant colors we can see throughout the chilly months. The
fall in Missouri is great, but the snow is even better. Lexi had never seen
very much snow before because in Texas it is very hot and there is almost never
any snow. Lexi has had a lot of fun with
her friends when they went outside and made snowmen together. That day was one of her best days here at
University so far. Lexi also loves to shop and often goes downtown to the
Plaza. She thinks it is really great
that there is a whole little neighborhood of shopping close to downtown. Lexi
is very happy that she chose Avila because she thinks it is the right size
school for her and she has already met a lot of good friends. Even though class
work is a little bit difficult, she feels she has the support of her teachers
and knows if she works hard she will be successful. Lexi is very close with her family. She has
one brother who is 14 years old and just started high school. Her mother has a
very important job and she works for the Texas Baptist Min. This is an
organization that helps people with disaster relief. For example, when the
hurricane hit Haiti, Lexi's mother made care packages for the victims and sent
them overseas. Lexi's father is a business owner. He has a couple of tech
recruiting companies and his job title is headhunter. In her life, Lexi has gone on a spiritual
journey. For eight years she did not believe in God. Then in her life she went
through some hard times and was looking for comfort. So she decided to go to
church. It was 1 1/2 years later that she decided to accept God into her heart.
Since that time, she has been content with life and has found a lot of
happiness. Lexi cares a lot about her education. Her
short term goal is to graduate with a degree in communication. However, she is
taking the prerequisites to be able to go to dental school. She would
ultimately like to become a dentist in the future.
